Mostly days but may work outside of dayshift hours for departmental needs. On-call duties per departmental guidelines
Job Summary
The Trauma Performance Improvement Nurse is a member of the Trauma team who facilitates efficient, effective, quality care for the trauma patient across the continuum. She/he utilizes expert clinical skills and practice to educate and promote compliance of clinical practice guidelines and trauma standards set forth by the Trauma Medical Director and the American College of Surgeons. The Trauma PI Nurse collaborates with the multidisciplinary team to maximize patient outcomes and ensure excellence through daily surveillance audits and data analysis that help drive the performance improvement process. Collects and analyzes benchmarking data, prepares reports and presentations to share outcome measures, and helps to ensure loop closure. Participates with organizational-wide Patient Safety Programs and continuous improvement projects. Minimum of three years of trauma nursing experience (ICU, ED, Flight) required and experience in quality preferred. 
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
Trauma nursing experience (ICU, ED, Flight) required and experience in quality improvement and research preferred. Evidence of clinical expertise in the practice of trauma/critical care. Must be self-directed, present information clearly and concisely in both written and verbal form. Demonstrated ability to work positively in collaboration with all healthcare disciplines and departments. Strong computer skills, including knowledge of word processing, database management, spreadsheet development, report writing, statistical and graphical software.

Preferred Education/Experience
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing required. Master of Science in Nursing or other healthcare related Master’s degree preferred. Certification in specialty preferred (TNCC). Must hold and maintain a Kentucky Nursing License as a Registered Nurse and be in good standing with the Board of Nursing. Must attend a Trauma Outcomes and Performance Improvement Course (TOPIC) within 2 years of hire. Quality experience preferred.
