The Lead Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) provides direct patient care under the supervision of the Director of Nursing and House Supervisor. Additionally, the Lead BHT assists the oversight of behavioral health tech duties and tasks. Involvement in the orientation and training of BHTs is an important part of the position. This position requires the ability to encourage positive teamwork using strong leadership and mentoring skills.
POSITION SUMMARY:
• Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, provides direct patient care to patients as assigned.
• Maintains a safe and efficient working and treatment environment per facility policies and procedures.
• Communicates effectively with the treatment team to ensure safe, quality care is provided to all patients.
• Leader in BHT functions of unit by supporting continuity of patient care and communication of department goals and objectives.
• Participate in orientation process of new BHTs and skill development of existing BHTs as directed by supervisor.
• Model, instruct and coach in areas to include specific patient care duties, documentation, patient engagement, patient activities, patient safety tasks, customer service, etc.
• Participate in role development and process improvement activities and attend meetings as assigned.
• Conduct and/or participate in formal training and workshops as assigned.
EDUCATION: High School Diploma or equivalent plus current applicable state requirements.
EXPERIENCE: One year acute inpatient with psychiatric care experience preferred.
