Salary: $21.55 – $32.35 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.
SUMMARY
Responsible and accountable to assist the pharmacist with procurement of medications, dispensing of pharmaceutical and I.V. solutions to assure timely and quality pharmaceutical care.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Demonstrates competency in all procedures within scope of practice. Supports policies and procedures of the organization.
Prepares labels, logs medication, prepares unit dosed medications and rechecks for accuracy.
Assists in verifying physician orders for accuracy of order entry and fills physician’s orders.
Prints daily cart-fill list and performs cart-fill with 100% accuracy and in a timely manner.
Prints labels and prepares I.V. administers using aseptic technique with 100% accuracy.
Prepares Emergency Department starter packs and other take home prescriptions according to state and federal rules and regulations. Rechecks for accuracy.
Delivers patient medications to nursing station.
Performs drug distribution for floor stock.
Assists in procurement of pharmacy stock including ordering and receiving stock. Assists in inventory counts. Performs outdate checks in all areas of the hospital. Assists with drug recalls and other outdated drug returns.
Answers questions as appropriate to position; refers questions to a pharmacist when clinical judgment is necessary.
Assists in data collection from patient charts and other files for DUE’s and CQI projects.
Confirms doses and admixes chemotherapy, with proper labeling.
Performs patient charges and credits accurately. Completes end of day billing process.
Types reports and labels, filing and form completion as directed.
Participates in annual performance reviews.
Assists in job development, cross-training and training for new employees and students.
Participates in staff meetings; attends and participates in other meetings as necessary.
Maintains professional competence through participation in continuing education programs. Maintains and supports involvement and contact with professional peer organizations.
Insures compliance with State, Federal and JCAHO regulations.
Follows safe work practices; maintains annual education for fire, safety and universal precautions.
Verbalizes Right-To-Know, specific to Oncology storage, preparation and disposal. Knowledge of SDS sheets.
Verbalizes Welia Health Mission and Vision. Demonstrates organization values in daily work.
Maintains a high standard of practice, using the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists Standards of Practice, and the American Pharmaceutical Association Code of Ethics to support Pharmacy’s activities. Helps insure all services offered by the Pharmacy are delivered with superior customer service.
Supports the policies and procedures of the organization and the standards of the Joint Commission as required for full accreditation.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma required. Pharmacy Technician Certificate required. Two to four years hospital pharmacy experience and/or training required. Chemotherapy preparation experience preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze and interpret general correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to communicate in verbal and in written form.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to work with mathematical calculations.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Prioritization skills and time management skills essential. Computer skills/experience is helpful.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Minnesota Licensure.

The duties of this position are representative of OSHA Class II and may be exposed to class II hazards. Hepatitis B vaccination optional.
